Rixin Jianghuai — Quests for Innovation: Anhui's Green Transition In Motion

Upgrading to high-end, smart, and green standards is a crucial goal for industrial development. Starting with optimizing and upgrading its industrial and energy structures, Anhui is accelerating the cultivation of emerging and future industries, broadening the application scenarios for renewable energy, and making green the most distinctive color of its high-quality development.

To develop green productivity and address the challenges faced by high-energy-consuming industries, the Provincial Development and Reform Commission, after in-depth analysis and evaluation of the energy use conditions of six major high-energy-consuming sectors in the province, has accelerated energy-saving and carbon reduction upgrades in traditional industries such as cement, steel, and chemicals. This includes speeding up equipment renewal and promoting clean energy. Additionally, the commission has allocated a total of 150 million yuan in funding to provide "government-funded, corporate check-ups" for 755 key enterprises. This "one enterprise, one policy" approach offers customized energy-saving and carbon reduction diagnostics and upgrade plans, which are expected to save 8.13 million tons of standard coal.

Represented by companies like Magang (Group), Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group, and Sinopec Anqing Petrochemical, key enterprises are taking concrete actions in energy conservation and carbon reduction to answer the call for innovation. Riding the tide of new industrialization, they are phasing out outdated processes, accelerating "intelligent and digital transformation," and moving towards high-end, smart, and green development. At Tongling Nonferrous Metals' Jinguan Copper Co., Ltd., reporters observed that the company has targeted issues such as waste low-temperature heat during production and difficulties in handling solid and hazardous waste. It has implemented a series of energy-saving and environmental protection projects, including low-temperature waste heat power generation and solid waste recycling. These initiatives save 3.5 million cubic meters of natural gas annually. Furthermore, by recovering and extracting precious metals like gold and silver from smelting waste, the company generates an additional output value of over 10 billion yuan each year.

Aiming for the dual-control targets of carbon emission intensity and total carbon emissions, how can Anhui enhance the "golden value" of its development by increasing the "green content" of its industries? In addition to accelerating the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, Anhui is further implementing an action plan for the green and low-carbon development of its manufacturing sector. It has outlined key implementation measures across six areas, including resource recycling and upgrading green manufacturing benchmarks, to further polish the "green brand" of Anhui manufacturing. At JAC Group' Xingang Manufacturing Base, Wang Bing, who is responsible for energy management, is busy upgrading their energy management system. By leveraging digital technology, the system monitors real-time data on water and electricity usage, as well as environmental monitoring across various production areas, automatically calculating the optimal energy consumption solution. With the construction of a "zero-carbon factory" as a breakthrough point, the base is expanding the scale of distributed photovoltaic systems and increasing the proportion of green electricity used.

Meanwhile, to answer the call for innovation, Anhui is also accelerating the cultivation and expansion of emerging industries such as solar and energy storage, hydrogen energy, artificial intelligence, and new materials, while proactively exploring new frontiers in future industries like low-altitude economy. These efforts continuously contribute to green growth. Since the beginning of this year, the province has added 73 national-level green factories, 7 green industrial parks, and 11 green supply chain management enterprises, ranking among the top in the country in total numbers. Energy consumption per unit of added value in industries above the designated size has decreased by 6.8%. Based on energy-saving and carbon reduction diagnostic reports, more than 290 enterprises have implemented over 750 upgrade projects, saving more than 1.76 million tons of standard coal.
