On the evening of May 23, "Huizhou Woman", a Huangmei opera performance by Anhui Zaifen Huangmei Opera Art Theater, commenced at the Venetian Theatre in Macao. This performance was part of the "Macao-Anhui Huangmei Opera Culture Week" series within the "5th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Theatre Cultural Festival." Focusing on the theme of "Women's Destiny," the culture week also featured performances of "Huizhou Past" on the evening of May 25 and "Female Princess Consort" on the evening of May 27. "Huizhou Woman", a winner of the "Cao Yu Drama Award" at the China Theatre Festival and the top prize at the Sixth China Art Festival, condenses a woman's thirty-five years of waiting into four acts, transforming the resilience and endurance of Eastern women into an enduring stage imagery. "Huizhou Past", hailed as a "new aesthetic benchmark for Huangmei opera," examines the struggles of women constrained by feudal ethics. Refined over more than six decades, "Female Princess Consort" presents a female character who courageously pursues justice and true love, establishing her as a classic figure on the opera stage. In addition to the performances, Macao and Anhui jointly organized a variety of events including the opening ceremony of the inaugural 2025 Macao-Anhui Huangmei Opera Culture Week, the unveiling ceremony of the Macao Huangmei Opera Masters Studio (a collaboration between the Macao Chinese Drama Artists Association and Han Zaifen), media meet-and-greets, and campus lectures on Huangmei opera. These diverse activities not only allowed Macao audiences to appreciate authentic Huangmei opera but also fostered deeper cultural and artistic integration between Anhui and Macao. "This culture week represents a mutual effort between Macao and Anhui. Through classic productions, we aim to attract more young audiences. Culture needs to reach out; we hope to bring excellent cultural traditions to Macao, allowing more people to understand and appreciate both Huangmei opera and Huizhou culture," said Han Zaifen.
