After day-and-night efforts by the builders, on September 3, reporters learned from the contractor Anhui Construction Water Resources Development & Investment Group Co., Ltd. that, as the "first super station" for diverting Yangtze River water into Hefei, the main plant’s underwater structures for the Daguantang and the Fifth Water Plant booster pump station project — part of Phase II of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe water diversion project — have all been completed, and work is now underway on the above-water structures. The original three-year construction period is likely to be finished a year early; the "super pump" is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2025.

The entire project consists of an intelligent water intake, a modern pump station, and water transmission pipelines, with designed flow rates of 5 cubic meters per second for Daguantang and 7 cubic meters per second for the Fifth Water Plant. In total the seven units have an installed capacity of 16,460 kilowatts, equivalent to the combined power of more than 200 passenger cars.

Reporters learned that for this project every concrete test specimen undergoes a 28-day constant-temperature, constant-humidity "special training" before a compressive-strength test. Loads are applied with a pressure-testing machine, and only when a specimen’s compressive-strength test results meet the design strength grade can the corresponding batch of concrete be judged to meet strength standards and be used in construction.
