On July 23, reporters learned from the Anhui Forestry Bureau that according to monitoring data, as of July 20, 2025, the Chinese alligator nesting in the Anhui Chinese Alligator National Nature Reserve has exceeded 3,800 eggs, and the wild population in the reserve has surpassed 1,920 individuals, both setting historic highs.

The record-breaking wild population of Chinese alligators in Anhui is closely linked to a series of efforts carried out by the management bureau of the Anhui Chinese Alligator National Nature Reserve.

Information on the Anhui Forestry Bureau's official website shows that since May this year, the reserve management bureau, together with the Xuancheng Public Security Bureau, the Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, and the Forestry Bureau, responded to the special situation where the wild alligator breeding season overlaps with the peak of summer production activities by jointly issuing a notice. This notice clarified that local governments should cooperate to establish a multi-dimensional protection network and set up an emergency response model of "discovery-reporting-joint consultation-proper handling," forming a clear framework of responsibilities and protection work.

At the same time, a joint patrol team composed of “departments + townships + the reserve” was organized, and a dual-track inspection mechanism combining “human patrol + technical surveillance” was established. Since the alligator breeding season began, 17 joint patrols have been conducted, confiscating 68 illegal items such as ground cage nets and fishing gear. The “Interim Measures for Rewarded Reporting in the Anhui Chinese Alligator National Nature Reserve” have been widely publicized to encourage public participation in supervision and reporting. Ten tips from the public have been received, and one trapped alligator has been rescued.

Additionally, the reserve organized eight promotional campaigns such as “Chinese Alligator Protection into Communities and Schools,” distributing more than 1,900 informational materials, greatly increasing public awareness of Chinese alligator protection knowledge and related laws and regulations.
