On July 20, reporters learned from the Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences that in 2024, Anhui's horticultural industry output value surpassed 100 billion yuan, ranking second among agricultural industries after the grain and oil sector.

In recent years, Anhui has vigorously promoted the development of ten green food industries each with an output exceeding 100 billion yuan. Supported by scientific and technological advancements, the province's horticultural industry has seen rapid growth. In 2024, the province's fruit tree planting area reached approximately 6 million mu (about 400,000 hectares), with a primary industry output value of around 51 billion yuan; vegetable planting area was about 15 million mu (about 1 million hectares), with a primary industry output value of 118.3 billion yuan; and traditional Chinese medicinal herb planting area covered 2.54 million mu (about 169,000 hectares), with a primary industry output value 20.6 billion yuan.

With strong support from technological innovation, Anhui’s horticultural industry has initially formed an overall layout featuring large-scale specialty agriculture in northern Anhui focused on premium fruits, authentic medicinal herbs, and adaptive agriculture; modern specialty agriculture centered on facility-grown fruits, vegetables, and aquaculture in the Jianghuai region; and ecological specialty agriculture in western and southern Anhui dominated by famous Huizhou tea, medicinal herbs, and vegetables. This has given rise to a large number of distinctive agricultural brands with strong national influence, such as Huizhou tea, Bozhou medicinal herbs, Huoshan Dendrobium, Changfeng strawberries, and Dangshan crisp pears.
