In the end of 1970s, some farmers in Shuangfeng Township were engaged in purchasing and sorting bristles, selling neat bristles to animal husbandry companies, processing the remaining bristles into writing brushes or oil brushes, and then carrying samples to secondary wholesale markets in Sichuan and Guangdong for domestic sales, which was the early stage of the development of Yuantan brush industry.

In the 1990s, the way of making brushes has changed from pure manual production to semi-mechanized production, and the sales market has expanded from Sichuan and Guangdong Pearl River Delta to the whole country, realizing the first leap from single production of paint brushes to production of industrial brushes and comprehensive brush.

In 2002, Yuantan established a private economic park to guide enterprises to enter the park. The brush making method basically realized mechanized and automated production. It also promoted the rapid development of raw material production, information, network, logistics and other related industries, realizing the second leap from family workshops to intensive production in the park.

In 2009, China National Light lndustry Council awarded Yuantan the title of "China Brush Industry Base". In 2011, with the approval of the provincial government, Yuantan Economic Development Zone in Qian Shan was established, forming a mature industrial system integrating raw material production, brush product processing, research and development, sales, information and logistics. It was successfully selected into the county-level characteristic industrial cluster in Anhui Province, which made the brush making industry achieve the third leap.
