On May 16, 2024, the National Canoe Sprint Youth Championships began at the Anhui Provincial Water Sports Management Center.

This competition is also the qualifying event for the 2024 ICF Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships. A total of 530 athletes from 26 representative teams across the country, including Beijing, Shaanxi, Liaoning, Gansu, Shanghai, Shandong, Fujian, have signed up with 1,489 boats, which is a new record high for the number of boats in the national canoe sprint event. Anhui has sent 32 athletes to participate, with the youngest athlete born in 2009, mainly young athletes.

The competition lasts for four days and is divided into two groups - Group A and Group B - with a total of 44 events. In both groups, the events of men's double kayak 500m, single kayak 1000m, single canoe 1000m, double canoe 1000m; women's single canoe 200m, single kayak 500m, double kayak 500m, four-person kayak 500m, and double canoe 500m are the qualifying events for the 2024 ICF Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships.

The competition is hosted by the Water Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the China Canoe Association, and the Anhui Provincial Sports Bureau, and organized by the Anhui Provincial Water Sports Management Center and the Anhui Provincial Water Sports Association. This competition not only serves as a comprehensive assessment of the training results of reserve young athletes across the provinces and cities, but also as an intense selection process for the ICF Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships.
