On March 20, the Anhui Provincial Bureau of Statistics and the Anhui Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics released the Statistical Bulletin on the National Economy and Social Development of Anhui Province in 2023. As the leading industry in Anhui, the entire automotive industry chain achieved a total operating income of over one trillion yuan (RMB), reaching 1.16 trillion yuan, an increase of 28.5% compared to the previous year. According to preliminary calculations, Anhui's gross domestic product (GDP) for the year was 4,705.06 billion yuan, an increase of 5.8% compared to the previous year. Calculated on a per capita basis, the per capita regional gross domestic product was 76,830 yuan, an increase of 5.7%. The bulletin shows that the emerging driving forces for Anhui's development continues to strengthen. In 2023, the value added of high-tech industries in Anhui increased by 11.2% compared to the previous year, accounting for 49.1% of the added value of industries above designated scale; the value added of equipment manufacturing increased by 13.3%, accounting for 38.7% of the added value of industries above designated scale; and the output value of strategic emerging industries increased by 12.2%, accounting for 42.9% of the total output value of industries above designated scale. In 2023, Anhui established the automotive industry as its leading industry. Currently, Anhui has gathered over 1,200 automotive component companies, and with the support of seven leading automakers including Chery, JAC, BYD, Volkswagen, and NIO, it has established a complete automotive industry chain system. Each city in Anhui has supporting enterprises related to new energy vehicles, and all the components for a new energy vehicle can be assembled within a three-hour drive. "Made in Anhui" automobiles are continuously expanding into the international market. In 2023, Anhui's automotive exports reached 71.46 billion yuan, an increase of 120% compared to the previous year. According to Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holding Group Co., Ltd., Chery automobiles have been the top Chinese brand for passenger car exports for 21 consecutive years and have established a global research and innovation system, including eight R&D centers in North America, Europe, and Shanghai. Statistics show that in 2023, Anhui's automobile production reached 2.491 million vehicles, ranking second in China, with a year-on-year increase of 48.1%; the production of new energy vehicles reached 868,000 vehicles, ranking fourth in China, with a year-on-year increase of 60.5%.
