The Shibalianwei Ecological Wetland is located in the Changlinhe Ancient Town, Hefei City, Anhui Province. It is adjacent to the Shibalianweixin River in the east, bordered by the Shahe River to the north, and connected to the Nanfei River in the west. Facing Chaohu Lake to the south, the wetland covers a total planned area of 27.6 square kilometers.
The wetland is designated as a "flood storage area." It is reported that the first phase of the wetland construction began in March 2018, and the third phase was completed in July 2022, completing all construction. The wetland restoration has shown significant progress, with increased biodiversity. It has become a habitat and stopover point for many rare bird species, including the Oriental White Stork, Yellow-breasted Bunting, and Baer's pochard. As of December 2022, a total of 117 bird species have been surveyed there, including 54 new species, and 64 fish species, including 28 new species, have been recorded.
The wetland's flood storage function is well-established, with a designed flood storage capacity of 109 million cubic meters. During emergency flooding, it can reduce the water level in Chaohu Lake by approximately 14 centimeters. In the event of a flood exceeding the standard in the Nanfei River, it can lower the water level in the main urban area of Hefei by about 20 centimeters, effectively alleviating flood pressure and ensuring urban safety. Currently, the wetland is home to fish underwater, vegetation in the water, and birds above, creating a beautiful natural ecological landscape.
