Hefei's leap of seven hundred billion yuan in GDP in past decade

In 2012, Hefei's gross regional product was 416.798 billion yuan(approx. 61.75 billion US dollars), and after ten years of high-quality development, this figure increased to 1.14 trillion(approx. 168.91 billion US dollars) in 2021, breaking through a trillion while also growing 2.7 times. And with the gross regional product exceeding one trillion, Hefei also rose to the19thplace in the national ranking, advancing 13 places in ten years.

A decade's leap ofseven hundred billion yuan in GDP

Data show that the gross regional product of Hefei surged from 416.798 billion yuan in 2012 to 1.14 trillion yuan in 2021, an increase of 2.7 times, across seven hundred billion yuan in a row. It thereby rose in the ranking of all cities in China to 19th, moving 13 places forward in ten years. In terms of growth rate, the average annual growth of its GDP is 9.1%, surpassing the national and provincial growth rates of 2.4 and 0.7 percentage points respectively.

In regard to ranking among China's provincial capital cities, the city's total GDP in 2021 ranks 9th , moving 6 places ahead compared with that of 2012. Its primacy in Anhui province, which is 26.6% in 2021, increased by 3.9 percentage points in the past decade, contributing 29.2% to the province's economic growth. Last year, its per capita gross regional product exceeds 120,000 yuan (approx. 17,773.04 US dollars), an increase of 2.2 times over 2012.

In the meantime, the strength of Hefei's counties and regions also continues to improve. The comprehensive strength ranking of Hefei High-tech Industry Development Zone ranked 8th in China and has remained in the top 10 for 8 consecutive years, with the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone rose to 10th recently. Hefei Xinzhan High-tech Industrial Development Zone is now a new world-class base of display industry. Feixi County was the province's first "100 billion county", indicating that it was the first to reach a GDP of over 100 billion yuan. Other counties and districts including Feidong, Changfeng, Baohe, Shushan and Luyang have also maintained strong momentum of development and their national economic ranking are climbing steadily in the past decade.
