On the evening of May 31, the Shushan Hall of Anhui Museum was brilliantly lit as a grand cultural feast celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival, spanning over a thousand years, took place. The immersive cultural gathering titled “Huizhou Style and Chu State Charm: Seeking the Fragrance of the Dragon Boat Festival,” co-produced by Anhui Museum and the Hefei Singing & Dancing Troupe, led the audience through the elegance of millennia-old Dragon Boat Festival traditions and the unique charm of Huizhou and Chu State cultures through poetry, refined music, qin (zither), dance, sword performances, and other art forms.
This cultural gathering was structured around three main chapters: “Chu Charm Returns to Anhui,” “Songs of a Flourishing Age,” and “The Dragon’s New Roar.” It skillfully combined Anhui’s regional characteristics, blending the profound depth of Chu poetry and Han melodies, the boldness and passion of Tang dynasty poetry, and innovative expressions of contemporary art. The performance integrated creative song and dance, poetry recitals, traditional folk music and songs, and interactive games, vividly telling the fascinating stories of Chu and Huizhou cultures by combining historical heritage, museum collections, archaeological discoveries, and intangible cultural heritage. In addition to the cultural gathering, the event served as a “hands-on” cultural classroom where visitors could explore exhibitions, listen to explanations, participate in poetry challenges, and receive exquisite festival souvenirs. Local residents actively engaged, completing a time-travel dialogue between cultural relics and customs, and collectively experiencing the unique charm of traditional culture. Moving forward, Anhui Museum will continue to launch a series of traditional cultural experience activities to bring cultural relics “to life” and make history more accessible to the public.
