On the morning of November 23rd, the first Anhui Chu Culture Forum opened in Huainan, Anhui, where over 160 experts, scholars, and researchers related to Chu culture gathered at the foot of Shungeng Mountain to discuss the creative transformation and innovative development of Chu culture. Chu culture has a unique charm and has had a profound impact on Chinese history, benefiting contemporary society and serving as a cultural heritage cherished by provinces such as Hunan, Hubei, Henan, and Anhui. Situated in the Jianghuai region, Anhui was a strategic stronghold for the state of Chu during the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period. In 241 BC, the state of Chu moved its capital to Shouchun, which is today's Shouxian County in Huainan City, Anhui Province. On April 16th of this year, at the "Archaeological China" major project progress meeting, the National Cultural Heritage Administration announced the latest discoveries from the highest-ranking Chu tomb excavated to date—the Wuwangdun Tomb in Huainan City, Anhui Province. Since the beginning of this year, as the archaeological excavation of the Wuwangdun Tomb has steadily progressed, Huainan City has continuously intensified its research into the unique characteristics of "Huai-Chu Culture" and released nationwide planning topics on Huai-Chu culture. In May, the city hosted the first Chu Culture Academic Seminar. Huainan Normal University and the Anhui Chu Culture Museum have also used artifacts unearthed from the Wuwangdun Tomb as models to create a series of cultural and creative products. Huainan is a place where Chu culture has accumulated, been passed down, and transformed, and it is referred to by the academic community as the birthplace of Chu culture studies. It houses the only museum in the country named after Chu culture, the Anhui Chu Culture Museum. Plans are underway to develop Shouchun City, the Wuwangdun Archaeological Site Park, and the Chu-Han Cultural Tourism Core Area. By hosting the first Anhui Chu Culture Forum, Huainan aims to generate enthusiasm for Huai-Chu culture research, establish its brand, spread its stories, and bring its legacy to life.
