The opening ceremony of a provincial reading campaign was held on Wednesday in Hefei, capital of East China’s Anhui province as the 27th World Book and Copyright Day is celebrated on Saturday, April 23.
The province will launch a series of reading-related activities such as speeches, recitations and contests throughout the year to embrace the convening of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, local authorities said at the ceremony. Up to 600 reading spaces will be built in the urban areas of the province this year. In addition, it will continue to carry out a publication program to help boost rural revitalization. Initiated in 2021, the program features the release of 100 types of publications intended for the agricultural sector, rural areas and farmers within three years. The province will also update online reading platforms and promote reading among teenagers. At the opening ceremony, local authorities unveiled the results of a survey on residents’ reading in 2021. Anhui residents’ reading index reached 71.45 points last year, higher than the national average, according to the results.
