The site of Zhongdu in Fengyang county, east China’s Anhui province was included among China’s Top 10 Archaeological Discoveries of 2021 on March 31. After the Dawenkou site in Guzhen county made the cut in 2009, the province waited 12 years to see its second entry on the Top 10 list. Built during the earliest years of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) in the hometown of the founding emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, the half-finished royal city was the prototype of the present Forbidden City in Beijing, according to China Daily.
