HEFEI, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Xinjiang became the first team to reach
the final of the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) with an
82-66 victory over Jiangsu in Bengbu, east China's Anhui province on
Tuesday. The two teams were neck and neck after the tip-off, trading off leads
several times in the first half. Led by former Women's National
Basketball Association (WNBA) player Han Xu, who scored 17 points in the
first half, Xinjiang had a slight advantage of three points, leading
39-36 at halftime. Jiangsu attempted to fight back after the break, but only found the
deficit enlarged to nine points going into the last 10 minutes. Han scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Wang Siyu
and Wang Lili both bagged 19 points for Xinjiang in the victory. "I feel very excited to enter the WCBA final for the first time, but I
need to play stronger in the paint in the final game since we will face
a very tough opponent," said Han, also a Chinese international. The other finalist will be decided between Inner Mongolia and Sichuan
on Tuesday night. Starting on Friday, the finals take a best-of-three
format, with the latest date for the season's conclusion next Tuesday.
