 Construction of a high-speed railway linking Hefei, capital of Anhui province, and Anqing in the southwest of the province resumes on Feb 25, 2020. A track-laying tractor dragged a pair of rails forward slowly at a construction site in Lujiang county, Anhui province, on Tuesday, marking the resumption of the Hefei-Anqing high-speed railway project. As part of a longer line linking Beijing with Kowloon, the 162-km Hefei-Anqing railway stretches from Hefei, capital of Anhui, to Anqing, a southwestern city in the province. It passes counties or county-level cities including Feixi, Shucheng, Lujiang, Tongcheng and Huaining. It is designed to allow trains to run at a speed of 350 km per hour. Upon completion, the travel time between Hefei and Anqing will be slashed from two hours to 40 minutes. The 8th Engineering Co. of CTCE Group, the railway builder, has taken a slew of measures to fight against the novel coronavirus epidemic, including closing the encampment to the public, sterilizing it on a regular basis, and checking the staff’s body temperature every day, according to Huang Shunjiang, a deputy project manager with the company. The company has recently applied for resumption of the rail project as the province is seeing a slowing trend in the epidemic. It is committed to promoting construction while doing a good job in epidemic prevention and control. “We are working overtime to make up for the delayed construction period. We aim to complete laying all tracks in early April, “ said Leng Yongxin, who takes charge of the track-laying work.
