China's first tourist destination featuring the merchants of Anhui province, collectively known as Huishang in Chinese, opened on Sunday in Wuhu in the southeast of the province.

Covering an area of 1,100 mu (about 733,333 sqm), Jiuzi Ancient Town includes 16 scenic spots, 50-plus time-honored stores, ten characteristic blocks, two star-rated hotels and an ocean park. Visitors are also exposed to more than 30 items of intangible culture heritage and over ten Huizhou culture immersion performances.

The Jiuzi program was launched by Macrolink Group with an investment of around 8.0 billion yuan (US$1.1 billion).

As China’s largest Huizhou-style complex, the town boasts 655 buildings in that traditional style, 42 of which date back to the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. Huizhou-style buildings are famous for complicated and delicate carvings.
