A total of 278 individuals and 22 groups were awarded the title of role models of dedication at a ceremony held in Beijing on Wednesday.
Among them, six individuals and one group come from Anhui province. They are listed as follows:
18 villagers in Xiaogang who put their fingerprints on a land-contracting agreement in 1978, dividing communally owned farmlands into plots for each family - a move marking the start of China’s rural reform;
Ye Lianping, a 91-year-old retired teacher who has volunteered to help rural children learn English for 19 years;
Xu Haifeng, who claimed China’s first Olympic gold in 1984;
Zhang Jie, a policeman who managed to protect the lives and property of the people but suffered 30 percent second-degree burns on his face and body;
Chen Xian, who has offered free legal aid to ethnic minorities for six consecutive years;
Jin Yuqin, a village head who contributed to local poverty alleviation;
Pan Jianwei, a leading scientist who has been at the center of China’s efforts to reach quantum supremacy.
