Seventy-two thousand three hundred people, seven cities, 25 county towns, these are not ordinary numbers; these are the contribution made by the people of Anhui to "Project No. 1".

The difficulty and risk of relocating tens of thousands of people are beyond imagination. To make the resettlement work move smoothly, the government of Anhui province established special resettlement leading groups in various regions to improve communication, clarify responsibilities, and solve problems encountered in the relocation work timely. With the support of the government and the masses along the route, the relocation and resettlement work has come to an end.

Xunyu Town

In 2018, according to the plan, a major project for people's well-being - the Water Diversion Project from the Yangtze River to Huaihe River - Zongyang Hub's pump station and control gate would be built in Xunyu Town, Tongcheng City. And the whole town would be relocated. For local residents, this is far more than just house-moving.

Ling Xiaomei, then deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Xunyu Town, was one of the leaders of the relocation team. At the beginning of that year, Ling Xiaomei started the policy publicity work without stopping. Every day before 8:00 a.m., she would go to the town to analyze the data and visit residents' homes. Since the relocation work started, Ling Xiaomei has hardly slept well.

The relocation team moved the residents with sincerity and completed the resettlement contract signing work in 43 days.

The Relocation housing in Yandian Town

Near the Liuhe Elementary School, which is the best part of Yandian Town, the first phase of the resettlement housing has entered the decoration stage. Next year, it can accommodate 1,348 households and resettle 4,314 people.

Pan Li'an, a villager in Kuahu Village, Yandian Town, received the relocation notice four years ago. "During that time, Secretary Wu often came to my home to do publicity work." Pan Li'an recalled the situation back then: "My family was running an agritainment business, and if we relocate, not only will the business be impossible, but there will be no place to live."

After learning about the situation, Wu Changju, secretary of the Kuahu Village Party Committee, came to the door every day to publicize the relocation policy. At the same time, he also contacted Pan Li'an's son to do publicity work and promised to find a job for him after the relocation. Half a month later, Pan Li'an's family was moved by Wu Changju's persistence and finally agreed to move.

"Look, we are going to open an agritainment farmhouse here next year." Pan Li'an pointed to a shopfront under construction opposite to the resettlement community and told the reporter: "The completion of this project is also good for us. The government's good policy has given us a new home, and we still have to work hard for a better life."

Standing on the new land, the masses believe that the future will be better and life will be happier; the cadres also believe that the efforts they have made are worthwhile, and they believe that they can witness the great changes of the masses to a happy new life after they bid farewell to their homeland.
