Recently, pile foundation drilling for the station building of the ChangjiangXinqu Station on the Hefei–Wuhan section of the Shanghai–Chongqing–Chengdu High‑Speed Railway (along the Yangtze River) officially commenced, marking the start of construction for the station. The Hefei–Wuhan section of the Yangtze High‑Speed Railway forms a key part of the Yangtze River corridor in China's national “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high‑speed rail network. It starts at Hefeinan Station in Hefei, Anhui Province, passes through urban Lu'an, Jinzhai County, Macheng City and Hong'an County in Hubei Province, and connects to the Wuhan–Yichang section of the Shanghai–Chongqing–Chengdu High‑Speed Railway at Wuhan Tianhe Station.
The line stretches approximately 360 kilometres with a designed speed of 350 km/h. It serves eight stations: Hefeinan, Lu'anbei, Jinzhaidong, Nanxi, Machengbei, Hong'anxi, Changjiang Xinqu and Wuhan Tianhe. It links the Yangtze River Delta to the east and the Chengdu‑Chongqing urban agglomeration to the west. Once completed, it will further improve the passenger rail layout in northern Wuhan and boost industry‑city integration in the Yangtze New Area and Huangpi area. After the line opens to traffic, the travel time between Wuhan and Hefei will be shortened from the current two hours to around one hour, enabling one‑hour connectivity between the two metropolitan areas. Upon completion, the Hefei–Wuhan section of the Shanghai–Chongqing–Chengdu High‑Speed Railway will free up freight capacity on existing lines. It carries great significance for accelerating the development of a comprehensive transport system along the Yangtze River, optimising regional economic distribution and advancing high‑quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
