Reporters recently visited the construction site of Anhui’s first National Regional Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Medical Center. All main structures of the project have been finished, and construction has fully moved into the decoration and fitting-out phase. Upon completion and opening next year, the center will effectively resolve the difficulties local residents face when traveling far from home for medical treatment, and drive coordinated advancement of TCM disciplines, talent development and scientific research in Hefei and across Anhui Province. Wearing safety helmets, reporters followed site managers up to the floors at the construction site. The outlines of the medical complex building and standardized training building stood out clearly. The framework for exterior curtain walls was in place, and workers were lifting and installing curtain wall panels in an orderly manner. Multiple work zones inside the buildings operated simultaneously. Some teams used scrapers to plaster walls, while others set up ceiling keels. Installation of door and window frames as well as pipeline routing proceeded alongside other works. In corridors and machine rooms, mechanical and electrical teams laid water supply and drainage, power, low-voltage and ventilation & air-conditioning pipelines with precision. Different trades worked on staggered schedules in smooth coordination. According to project officials, fine interior decoration and MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) installation kicked off immediately after main structure completion. Walls, ceilings, doors, windows and curtain walls are key exterior and interior works, while MEP pipelines form concealed works that must be pre-embedded in place in advance. “With cross-trade operations, tight coordination between construction sequences is required. We have divided the work zones and drawn up detailed construction schedules to maximize efficiency while upholding safety and quality standards.” Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, founded in 1906, is a Grade A tertiary comprehensive TCM hospital and a research-oriented TCM hospital jointly built by Shanghai Municipality and relevant national ministries. It ranks among Shanghai’s top ten general hospitals. Shuguang Hospital Anhui Hospital, the Hefei-based branch of Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is currently the only National Regional TCM Medical Center in Anhui and part of the fourth batch of national regional medical centers. With all main structures completed and decoration works underway, the project is steadily advancing toward the target of completion and commissioning next year.
