Range anxiety has long been a major concern for new energy vehicle (NEV) owners. Although charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly widespread, compared with the quick refueling of gasoline cars, "not daring to drive far" remains a key drawback of NEVs. Sometimes drivers hesitantly take the expressway, worried about queues at service‑area piles and even more worried about the car stalling mid‑journey. The root cause is that most current charging facilities are too slow. Is there "super" charging technology that can significantly shorten NEV charging times? Yes. With technological progress, high‑power charging facilities can effectively ease range anxiety. For example, facilities with single‑charger power of 480 kW or more can greatly reduce charging time and relieve the "one pile for many" bottleneck at highway service areas. Recently, multiple departments jointly issued the "Anhui Province High‑Power Charging Facilities Construction Action Plan (2025–2027)" (the "Plan"), proposing to further optimize and improve the province's charging and battery‑swap network, accelerate the construction of a well‑distributed, quality‑upgraded, and technologically advanced high‑power charging infrastructure system, and better meet the public's needs for green travel. By 2027, the province aims to cumulatively build over 6,500 high‑power charging charger (single‑charger charging power of 250 kW or above). Where are high‑power chargers most needed? Undoubtedly, highway service areas and tourist attractions are the places most in need of fast refueling points. The Plan states that new charging facilities added to existing highway service areas should, in principle, adopt high‑power chargers; chargers with utilization rates exceeding 40% during major holidays and rated below 60 kW should be prioritized for upgrade to high‑power facilities. In newly built highway service areas, high‑power chargers should account for no less than 30% of all charging facilities. By the end of 2027, each highway service area in the province should be equipped with at least two high‑power chargers, with over 1,000 high‑power chargers completed across the province, and initial application of megawatt‑level ultra‑fast charging facilities encouraged. Tourist attractions are another high‑traffic area and frequent long‑distance destinations for drivers, with strong demand for rapid recharging. The Plan specifically mentions building or upgrading high‑power charging facilities in parking lots and visitor centers of 4A‑level and above tourist sites and provincial‑level and above resort areas, and encourages deployment in key rural tourism villages and homestay clusters to provide NEV owners with good charging conditions for travel and vacation. The Plan sets 1–2 year development goals: by 2027, basically form a province‑wide "four zones, one corridor, one line" high‑power charging service network, with a cumulative total of over 6,500 high‑power chargers (single‑charger charging power of 250 kW or above). The "four zones" are expressway service areas, urban areas, 5A tourist attractions, and provincial‑level and above logistics parks, achieving full coverage of high‑power charging facilities. The "one corridor" is the "expressway ultra‑charging corridor," aiming for ultra‑fast charging facilities (single‑charger power of 480 kW or above) at expressway service areas spaced no more than 100 kilometers apart. The "one line" is the "Beautiful Anhui Fast‑Charge, Slow‑Tour Scenic Line," ensuring high‑power charging facilities along key provincial tourist routes are spaced no more than 50 kilometers apart. As of June 2025, the province had 2,439 high‑power charging piles; the 2027 target is 6,500, nearly a 2.6‑fold increase. According to provincial targets, Hefei currently has the most high‑power charging piles at 1,121, with a 2027 target of 2,400. The fastest growth is planned for expressway service areas: they had 178 as of June 2025 and aim to reach 1,140 by 2027, about 6.4 times the original number. "Anhui will become the most EV‑friendly province for new energy vehicle travel," said an official from the provincial Auto Office.
