Wusha Small Peanuts: A Flavorful Bridge Connecting Anhui and Hong Kong

In early August, a certificate of appreciation traveled thousands of miles from the shores of Hong Kong to the land of Anhui—the Hong Kong Anhui Friendship Association specially delivered this token of gratitude to Chizhou in recognition of the Wusha Small Peanut Cooperative's support for the 2025 Hong Kong-Anhui fellowship event. How could such a small agricultural product become a bond connecting Anhui and Hong Kong? The story begins with the recent "Hometown Bazaar Carnival" in Hong Kong.

At the event, the Wusha Small Peanuts booth was always bustling with crowds. "Small in size, crisp in texture, and authentic in flavor"—these earthy peanuts not only attracted numerous visitors but also earned consistent praise from local and international attendees. "The taste is so rich, it reminds me of home," one visitor remarked with a thumbs-up, expressing a sentiment shared by many.

The traditional roasting method, which may seem "uncompromising," turned out to be the key to evoking nostalgia. Tumbled and baked in high-heat sand, the small peanuts shed their raw astringency and developed a rich aroma. The interplay of crispness and fragrance upon tasting instantly stirred a deep-rooted connection to the homeland. In that moment, each peanut solidified the bond between Anhui and Hong Kong, giving tangible form to the kinship that spans a thousand miles.

"We simply wanted more people to taste the specialties of Chizhou," said Feng Haixia, head of the cooperative, explaining their motivation for participating. When she learned in late May that Hong Kong was seeking local specialties for the bazaar, she immediately sent 100 trial packages to the city. Though a small gift, it carried profound sentiment—thus, these humble peanuts traversed mountains and seas with the sincerity of Anhui, becoming yet another vivid testament to the exchanges between Anhui and Hong Kong.

The walls adorned with honors trace the growth trajectory of Wusha Small Peanuts: "Anhui Time-Honored Brand," "Top Ten Agricultural Specialties of Chizhou," "Top Ten Gold Medal Snacks," and one of the "Best Tourism Souvenirs of Chizhou," among others. Behind these accolades lies both the cooperative's pioneering efforts and the steadfast support of the local government. For years, Wusha Town has been committed to driving the development of the small peanut industry: facilitating collaborations with institutions like Chizhou University for initiatives such as "Joining Hands with E-commerce, Blooming Wusha's Peanuts," which opened new channels for live-streaming-assisted agriculture; and guiding the cooperative to participate in various exhibitions to continuously enhance brand recognition. Today, Wusha Small Peanuts have become the "ambassador" of local specialty agriculture, shining brightly in the effort to revitalize rural areas.

"It is the signature product of Wusha's distinctive agriculture," said Zhang Yue, member of the Wusha Town Committee in charge of publicity and united front work. In 2024, the cooperative alone achieved sales of over 1.8 million yuan, creating nearly 30 jobs and benefiting multiple surrounding villages, thereby broadening income streams for local farmers. This success has further solidified Wusha Town's commitment to high-quality development in specialty agriculture. By June 2025, the cooperative's sales had already exceeded 600,000 yuan. Following past trends, when the peak harvesting season arrives in September and October, sales are expected to surge once again.
