On January 9, reporters learned from the Hefei Ecological Environment Bureau that in 2024, the overall water quality of Chaohu Lake stabilized at Class IV, with the eastern half of the lake reaching Class III from January to September. The occurrence of cyanobacterial blooms decreased by 21 times compared to the previous year, reflecting a trend of clearer water, fewer cyanobacteria, and improved ecology. The overall eutrophication index of the lake was maintained below 55, the lowest in the past eight years. The water quality of the Nanfei River continued to remain at Class III, with all 20 national monitoring sections meeting standards. The excellent rate for provincial monitoring sections was 100%, while the excellent rate for city monitoring sections was 91.2%, an increase of 5.2 percentage points year-on-year. The occurrence of cyanobacterial blooms has significantly decreased, with a year-on-year reduction of 21 blooms. The maximum and cumulative occurrence areas fell by 18.4% and 50.3%, respectively, marking the lowest levels in the past decade. There are 826 plant species around Chaohu Lake, with 59 recorded fish species and an increase of 84 bird species over the past decade, totaling 311 species. The critically endangered species, the Yellow-breasted Bunting, has been spotted multiple times, and the Oriental Stork, once only observed with three individuals a decade ago, now exceeds 1,000. By the end of 2024, over 400 Bewick's Swans were recorded gathering at the Shibalianwei Wetland for wintering. Moving forward, Hefei will accelerate the implementation of a new round of comprehensive management for Chaohu Lake, continuously consolidating and enhancing the governance achievements.
