Funan, Anhui: A model for the comprehensive utilization of agricultural and animal husbandry waste

Funan County in Anhui Province has become a model for comprehensive utilization of agricultural and livestock waste. The county produces about 3.5 million tons of waste annually, and to make full use of these wastes, it launched a project in 2017 to develop and utilize biogas and bio-methane from agricultural waste. The project has built 8 bio-methane production stations, forming a regional economic development model of ecological recycling for agricultural waste. The waste is crushed and fermented to produce biogas and biogas residue. The biogas is purified into bio-methane and delivered to households, while the biogas residue is processed into organic fertilizer and returned to the fields to improve soil quality.
