Liu Dahong (right) is carving wood sculptures with his apprentice Fang Zhengdong.

Liu Dahong designs the shape of the wood sculpture based on the theme of the artwork and the form of the wood.

Liu Dahong is currently carving.

On March 20th, at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Craftsmen Woodcarving Studio in Hefei Xinzhan High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Liu Dahong, a 66-year-old provincial master of arts and crafts, has been engaged in the woodcarving industry for nearly 50 years.

After going through material selection, design, carving, polishing, and painting for several weeks, seemingly inconspicuous camphorwood pieces can be transformed into works of art that combine modern aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship.

To better pass on his skills, Liu Dahong also accepts apprentices and teaches them woodcarving techniques to cultivate excellent "craftsmen."
