"Emperor Shun ruled the country and chose from among the masses. He appointed Gao Yao, and those who lacked virtue were far away." Gao Yao was the Minister for the Law of Emperor Shun in prehistorical China. He was not only the earliest judge but also the earliest legislator in China.
Lao Zi 
"The Tao that is utterable is not the eternal Tao." Lao Zi is generally considered the founder of philosophical and religious Taoism and the author of the book Daodejing (also known as "Tao Te Ching"). His work had a profound influence on subsequent Chinese philosophers, who annotated, commended, and criticized his work extensively.
Zhuang Zi 
"The span of human life is short as the time taken by a white pony flashing across a rock crevice." Zhuang Zi was the most influential Chinese philosopher of Taoism after Lao Zi. His teachings also exerted a great influence on the development of Chinese Buddhism and had a considerable effect on Chinese landscape painting and poetry.
Guan Zhong 
"People observe etiquette and know honor and shame only after they are well-fed and clothed." Guan Zhong was a representative figure of Legalism during the Spring and Autumn Period and a prominent economist, philosopher, politician, and military strategist in ancient China.
Hua Tuo 
"Those who understand people are skilled in heaven's ways, and those who understand heaven must be skilled in dealing with people." Hua Tuo was a widely respected Chinese physician and surgeon who is best known for his surgical operations and the use of Mafeisan, an herbal anesthetic formulation made from hemp. He was also the developer of the famous Wuqinxi (literally "Exercise of the Five Animals").
Cao Cao 
"An old war-horse may be stabled, yet still it longs to gallop a thousand miles. A noble-hearted man, though advanced in years, never abandons his proud aspirations." Cao Cao was a great Chinese statesman, warlord, literary scholar, calligrapher and poet. As one of the central figures of the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Cao laid the foundations for what became the state of Cao Wei.
Bi Sheng 
"During the Qingli era (1041-1048), there was Bi Sheng, a commoner who invented movable type printing." Bi Sheng was an inventor of the Northern Song dynasty(960 - 1279) who created movable type printing using clay and wooden blocks. This was a fundamental reform in the development of Chinese printing technology and a great contribution to the cultural exchange between China and other countries around the world.
Zhu Xi 
"Only by being able to not act, can one have the ability to act. Those who act indiscriminately, how can they have any ability to act?" Zhu Xi was a philosopher, thinker, educator, and poet of the Southern Song dynasty of China. He contributed greatly to Chinese philosophy and was influential in the development of the Neo-Confucianism thought that long dominated Chinese intellectual life.
