Global players gather to map out future of smart industries Approved by the State Council, the 2022 World Manufacturing Convention is to open on Tuesday in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, aiming to map out a new future for smart manufacturing through the cooperation among global manufacturers, in an effort to create a better future for the world. The four-day gala, which also aims to deepen manufacturing ties between Anhui and the outside world, is expected to draw some 800 important guests, including around 200 foreign representatives. With the theme of "manufacturing for the world, creating a better future," the convention is to be held both offline and online. With a special exhibition area of 74,000 square meters at the Hefei Binhu International Convention and Exhibition Center, the convention covers a series of sessions, including an opening ceremony, keynote forums, project matchmaking activities and parallel forums. Its exhibitions will be divided into two spheres-government-led exhibitions and market-oriented exhibitions. With the help of the annual WMC, Anhui has witnessed steady progress in bolstering the high-quality development of its manufacturing industry over the past four years, largely boosting the province's manufacturing power, said Niu Nutao, director of the Anhui Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology. Niu said that in the past 10 years, Anhui has cultivated 14 industries worth 100 billion yuan ($14.5 billion) each and 15 national new-type industrialization demonstration bases. Party Secretary of Anhui, Zheng Shanjie, called for further elevation of the WMC platform to boost industrial innovation and keep abreast of emerging industries and core technologies. It is also imperative to improve the internationalization of Anhui's cities and boost the pilot free trade zone in the province and elevated the level of opening-up to the outside world, thus moving toward a modern and beautiful Anhui, Zheng said. Anhui Governor Wang Qingxian noted that technological innovation is an outstanding advantage in Anhui's development, and it is necessary to take investment and project management as the core of economic work in the province. "Let more and more entrepreneurs and investors feel the sincerity and kindness of Anhui, which is a hot land for market players," Wang said. The convention is co-sponsored by the Anhui provincial government, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Science and Technology, State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and some other agencies.
