The tourism authority in East China's Anhui province released a plan recently, vowing to develop 100 scenic areas into first-class destinations.

Under the plan, five local resorts will win national recognition, 15 attractions will be given the top 5A status and another 30 ones will be known for their new forms of business like traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) tourism and leisure agriculture by 2020. In addition, 35 large scenic regions will register more than 100 million yuan (about $15 million) in annual revenue, said the Anhui Tourism Administration.

In order to achieve the targets, those scenic spots will launch a slew of projects to renovate facilities, improve overall functions, nurture new forms of business and reform systems and mechanisms. They will also step up efforts to market their brands, groom talent and improve services.

The administration said it will try to raise funds for the plan in many ways, including the Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

Building 100 top destinations is viewed as a driving force behind the local tourism sector’s transformation and upgrading, according to the administration.
