The top economic regulator in East China’s Anhui province has introduced new initiatives to boost open economy, Anhui Business Daily reported Wednesday.

The Anhui Provincial Development and Reform Commission released its five-year plan on inbound and outbound investment, pledging to improve transport networks with Hefei, the provincial capital, as the center, expand the scope of opening-up, and create a favorable environment for open economy.

Under the plan, Hefei will be linked with major Chinese cities by high-speed railways, more cargo train services will ply between the city and central European cities, and transport networks at multiple levels and of large capacity will be built, as part of the efforts to develop the landlocked city to a major hub on the Belt and Road, an initiative Chinese leadership proposed in 2013.

In addition, the province will push ahead with airport projects, including the second phase project of Hefei Xinqiao International Airport, the construction of Wuxuan airport and Bengbu airport.

The second phase of construction on Xinqiao airport is due to be completed by 2020. It is expected to handle more than 10 million passengers and 200,000 tonnes of cargo on a yearly basis. Flights to the US and European and Southeast Asian countries will be added.

In the past year, the province made remarkable progress in going global. It officially became part of the world-class urban agglomeration in the Yangtze River Delta; the establishment of a bonded logistic center and a Sino-German industrial zone was approved by the State Council, China’s cabinet; JAC, a local car maker, entered into partnership with German auto giant VW; the 2016 Anhui Trade & Investment Expo was topped off with success, to name just a few.
