China Railway Shanghai Group unveiled a transport plan for the upcoming spring travel season from March 16 to April 9, expecting to handle 51.50 million passengers, about 2.06 million on a daily basis.

The plan forecast that 10.60 million people will travel by train in the Yangtze River Delta during the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday, which runs from April 5 to April 7. The passenger volume will reach its peak of 2.92 million on April 5.

The company will add seven pairs of bullet trains, mainly from Shanghai to Suzhou and Wuxi, from Hangzhou to Qiandaohu and Huangshan.

Rail authorities will take more measures, such as adding carriages to regular trains, to expand the capacity of major rail routes including Shanghai-Nanjing, Shanghai-Hangzhou, Hangzhou-Ningbo railways and facilitate easier train travel.

The high-speed railway connecting Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province and Huangshan in Anhui province opened at the end of last year, slashing the travel time between the two cities from 3.5 hours to 1.5 hours.

The rail route is becoming more and more popular as it passes a number of tourist attractions, including seven 5A-rated ones like the West Lake and the Huangshan Mountain.

A tourist-dedicated train service is slated to be launched between Shanghai and Jiande, Zhejiang province on March 30, according to the plan.
