The cultural industry and tourism accounted for 4.52 percent and 5.47 percent of Anhui’s gross domestic production (GDP) respectively, higher than the national average, according to the latest data released at a press briefing on Wednesday.
The area of libraries, cultural centers, museums and art galleries in the province increased 54 percent, 42 percent, 21 percent and 21 percent respectively from 2016. 1,795 cultural venues offer free admissions to the public during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), receiving more than 100 million visits on a yearly basis, according to Yuan Hua, head of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Anhui Province. The province has enhanced the protection of cultural heritage over the past few years, Yuan said. 47 cultural heritage sites under national protection have been added in the province since 2016, bringing the total number to 175. It took the 10th place in terms of number of national cultural heritage sites. The value-added output of the province’s cultural industry reached 153.7 billion yuan ($23.4 billion) in 2018, or 4.52 percent of the GDP. Its tourism revenue stood at 852.6 billion yuan in 2019, with an average annual growth rate of 19.9 percent during the period. The value-added output of tourism made up 5.47 percent of the provincial GDP in 2019. The cultural industry and tourism together contribute over 80 percent to hotel, catering, civil aviation and rail transport industries in the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20). Thanks to the development of tourism, 400,000 people have been lifted out of poverty since 2016.
