22.22 million rail trips are expected to be made in the Yangtze River Delta region during the upcoming National Day holiday, 76.3 percent of those made in the same period last year, according to China Railway Shanghai Group Co.

The travel peak will fall on October 1, which marks the Mid-Autumn Festival, with 2.52 million rail trips estimated in the region, consisting of Shanghai and Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces.

This year’s break will be one day longer as the festival combines with the holiday.

The group plans to add 94 trains during the 8-day holiday to meet the rising demand for travel.

Ten of them will be bound for remote destinations like Beijing, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Nanchang, Pingxiang and Shijiazhuang, while 84 trains will be arranged on short-distance routes including Shanghai-Nanjing, Shanghai-Hangzhou, Nanjing-Hangzhou, Hangzhou-Ningbo, Hangzhou-Huangshan, Nanjing-Anqing and Hefei-Bengbu, according to the group.

The waning of the COVID-19 epidemic in China, the resumption of cross-provincial group tours, and the expansion of reception capacity in tourist attractions have raised confidence in travel and boosted travel demand, the group said.
