The Ma'anshan-Chaohu section of Beiyanjiang Expressway and the Anhui-section Yuexi-Wuhan Expressway won the Li Chun Prize, the top highway construction award in China, Anhui Transportation Holding Group Co.said on Thursday. The Ma'anshan-Chaohu section of Beiyanjiang Expressway, running 35.8 kilometers, links the Ma’anshan Yangtze River Bridge, Chuzhou-Ma’anshan Expressway and Wuhu-Hefei Expressway, according to the company. The construction of the expressway started on January 16, 2011. It opened to traffic on December 31, 2013. Located in the Dabie Mountains region, the 46.24-km Anhui-section Yuexi-Wuhan Expressway is a major part of the national expressway linking Shanghai with Wuhan in Hubei province. The project kicked off in November 2012 and was completed in December 2015. The expressway cuts the travel time from Yuexi, a county in Anhui province, to Wuhan from four hours to two hours, the company said. Established in 1997 by the Ministry of Transport, the Li Chun Prize recognizes outstanding highway projects in China. The award was named after Li Chun, who designed and built Zhaozhou Bridge in the Sui Dynasty (581-618).
