On July 29, 2020, the 300th China-Europe freight train in 2020 set out from Hefeibei Railway Station in Hefei, east China’s Anhui province, to Vorcino, Russia via Erlian Port, with 100 TEUs of goods such as refrigerators and freezers. Despite the COVID-19 epidemic and floods，Hefei International Land Port worked together with Hefeibei Railway Station, Hefei Customs and China Railway International Multimodal Transport Co.to ensure high-quality and large-scale operation of China-Europe freight trains on a regular basis. Hefei was among the first cities in China to resume operation of China-Europe freight trains amid the epidemic. They have delivered 800 tons of medical supplies including masks and protective suits. The travel time between Hefei and Neuss, Germany has been shortened to 12 days from 15-16 days since March, and that between the Chinese city and Helsinki, capital of Finland, has been reduced from 14 days to 10 days. Return trips from Europe to Hefei saw a 100.34 percent year-on-year increase in the value of cargo during the first half of this year. The city has launched 20 routes to 24 cities in eight foreign countries. The proportion of homegrown products in the total cargo rose more than 20 percent year on year. Cargo from the Yangtze River Delta region, which consists of Shanghai municipality and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui, accounted for over 80 percent of the total. The China-Europe freight train services provide sufficient transport capacity guarantee for the development of export-oriented economy in the eastern Chinese region.(By Li Renjian)
