Anhui province is home to over 7.81 million registered volunteers, or more than 12.5 percent of its population, ranking fourth in China, statistics from a voluntary service forum held on Wednesday showed.
Since the beginning of this year, the province has taken a slew of measures in areas such as local legislation on voluntary services, organizational development and informatization of them, as part of its effort to promote the sustainable and healthy development of voluntary services, authorities said at the forum.
The local legislative body has completed a survey on voluntary services. There are 241 legitimate voluntary organizations that are identified in the provincial social organization management system.
More than 7.81 million volunteers and 16,612 voluntary organizations were registered in the province. A total of 32,064 volunteer service programs have been launched, taking more than 5.74 million hours altogether. The local government has used a public welfare fund of 5.17 million yuan to procure services from nongovernmental organizations.
