Corning Incorporated, an American company specializing in specialty glass and ceramics, announced on Monday that it will invest in an existing production facility in Hefei, capital of East China’s Anhui province, for its automotive glass business.
The facility, which is expected to go into operation in 2019, will produce Corning Gorilla Glass for automotive interiors, a durable and optically advantaged cover glass used in automotive interior applications.
It has been the third time for the company to make investment in Hefei over the past three years. Corning Environmental Technologies announced a new facility in the city, and Corning Display Technologies recently opened the world’s largest LCD glass substrate plant in the city to supply BOE, the country’s leading panel maker.
The Fortune 500 company has poured nearly $3 billion into five projects in Hefei.
