A mother is threatening to take legal action against an Anhui Province high school involving her daughter's suicide.
Li Youhong said her 16-year-old daughter, surnamed Cheng, took her own life in a pill overdose May 1 after a confrontation with a teacher at Anhui Tianzhushan School.
She said students had been assigned to write about a 10-hour, 30-kilometer hike they had taken during a class trip.
When Cheng protested the assignment by writing the word "exhausting" 150 times, her teacher (not identified) ordered her to rewrite it.
The mother explained the situation escalated from there. "The teacher threatened to report her case to the school's moral education office."
Li said Cheng was unwilling to go back to school following the incident. "The teacher might have said something that provoked her."
The school has denied any wrongdoing. "Neither the activity nor the teacher's decisions were out of line," said principal Zhu Zhangping
Li said she is looking to take legal action. "My daughter lost her life. How can the school be so indifferent?" she asked.
