Anhui province is an ideal place for global manufacturing investors, Christian Wulff, former president of Germany and chairman of the Global Alliance of SMEs said at the World Manufacturing Convention 2018.
The convention was held together with the Anhui Investment and Trade Expo 2018 in Hefei, capital of the eastern Chinese province, from May 25 to 27.
Wulff said the convention will further raise the profile of the city and the province as a whole and lure more top manufacturing clusters to the city.
At the event, 88 multinational enterprises signed contracts worth 75.6 billion yuan ($11.8 billion), and State-owned enterprises (SOEs) signed 180 billion-yuan contracts on 158 programs involving information technology, new materials, and new energy, etc.
In addition, Taiwan-based companies plan to pour 28.5 billion yuan into 106 projects in the province, according to documents signed at the convention.
A series of forums were held during the three-day event, bringing together international dignitaries, manufacturing giants, entrepreneurs from Fortune 500 companies, well-known experts and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Topics of the forums included intelligent manufacturing, advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence.
Remarkable achievements made by the province were also demonstrated at the convention. It takes the lead in the world in researching quantum communication and steady-state high magnetic field, and makes the world’s thinnest glass, to name just a few.
“China has made great contributions to the world’s sustainable development. The World Manufacturing Convention 2018 is a world high-standard gathering,” Ban Ki-moon, former secretary-general of the United Nations said at the event.
