A worker is engaged in a simulated test of live-line working on a ±1100 kV UHV transmission project in Beijing on May 19, 2018.

Workers from an engineering company based in East China’s Anhui province completed a simulated test of live-line working on a ±1100 kV UHV transmission project on May 19, writing a new chapter in the history of the power industry.

In electrical engineering, live-line working, also known as hotline maintenance, is the maintenance of electrical equipment, oftern operating at high voltage, while the equipment is energized.

Carrying out in Changping district, Beijing, the simulation marks the first time live-line work has been operated on a ±1100 kV UHV transmission line.

The line passes through Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Henan and Anhui. It sets a world record in voltage level.

The workers hail from Anhui Power Transmission and Distribution Engineering Company.
