Ma'anshan and Wuhu, two major cities in East China's Anhui province, are among 17 cities nationwide which enjoy state-level support for their development of innovation-oriented cities, the provincial Department of Science and Technology said on Monday.
The cities will give more backings to small- and medium-sized enterprises, and expand hi-tech enterprises. They will nurture and lure high-caliber sci-tech talents by offering them a slew of initiatives.
The commercialization of major research findings will be sped up in those innovation-oriented cities.
Hi-tech industrial development zones will be improved, and hi-tech industries and strategic emerging industries will be promoted.
The cities will step up efforts to build platforms of mass entrepreneurship and innovation.
In addition, government functions will be transformed and its management capacity will be raised.
Hefei, capital of the province, was recognized as an innovation-oriented city prior to Ma’anshan and Wuhu.
