Workers completed the laying of tracks on the Hangzhou-Huangshan high-speed rail project Monday, taking a step forward toward opening to traffic by the end of this year.

Construction on the 265-km line, which runs from Hangzhou, capital of east China’s Zhejiang province, to Huangshan of east China’s Anhui province, began in June 2014. The project is expected to be completed this October at a cost of 36.55 billion yuan ($5.78 billion). Upon completion, the railway will allow speed at 250 km/h.

The Anhui-section railway passes Jixi, Shexian counties and Huangshan, a city home to the world-renowned Huangshan Mountain.
