Bengbu, Baranovichi Sign MOU for Sister City Relationship

Lis Anatoly Vasilievich, head of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, Belarus, and his delegation visited Bengbu on the morning of September 14. Mayor Wang Cheng met with the delegation and signed an MOU for sister city relationship with Baranovichi District, Brest.

Mayor Wang Cheng said to the guests that Bengbu is a shining pearl embedded at the north-south geographical boundary of China as well as a central city in North Anhui designated by the CPC Anhui Provincial Committee and Anhui Provincial People's Government.

Bengbu is a national integrated transport hub and one of the major cities of the Hefei-Wuhu-Bengbu National Self-dependent Innovation Demonstration Area. It is acclaimed as "a cradle of culture, hometown of the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and a land of songs and dances".

In recent years, Bengbu has been on a fast development track and it has progressed in a leap-forward manner. In 2016, Bengbu generated 138.58 billion yuan of GDP, up 9.4 percent and fiscal revenue hit 25.12 billion yuan.

In the first half of 2017, Bengbu's GDP continued to grow at the rate of 9 percent.

It is learned that Brest is the gateway to Western European countries and at the crossroads from east to west and from south to north.

The mayor hoped that the two sides will continue exchanges and further strengthen cooperation in economy, trade, culture and tourism through positive interactions between the two governments, theirenterprises and people.
