JAC Motors, a homegrown car maker based in East China’s Anhui province, and Chinese online search engine Baidu signed an agreement on Tuesday to launch self-driving cars in the second half of 2019.

As a memeber of Baidu’s Apollo alliance, JAC Motors delivered dozens of Refine S3 to Baidu for its map data collecting program yesterday.

In April, Baidu initiated the Apollo project, aiming to provide open, comprehensive and reliable software for the development of autonomous vehicles.

Besides JAC, more than 50 car makers and auto parts suppliers have joined the Apollo alliance.

Gu Weihao, general manager of Baidu Intelligent Vehicle, known as the L3 Division of the internet company, said the partnership between Baidu and JAC is a milestone in mass production of self-driving cars using state-of-the-art map technology.
