East China's Anhui province has maintained fast yet steady growth in agricultural import and export since the beginning of this year.

In the first half of 2017(H1), the province's agricultural sector posted a 27.9 percent year-on-year rise in foreign trade value, which amounted to some 12.4 billion yuan ($1.8 billion), customs data showed.

In breakdown, agricultural exports reached 4.0 billion yuan, up 13.4 percent from the same period a year ago, while agricultural imports rose 31.5 percent year-on-year to 8.4 billion yuan.

Major exports ranged from tea to Chinese herbal medicines and down feathers. The Jan-Jun period saw a surge in grain, meat, edible oil and milk imports.

The local customs suggested that the province should step up efforts to develop intensive agricultural processing and featured farm produce and to create industrial agglomerations.
