Ten people were presented by Central Military Commission with the Order of August 1 - the latest and highest military decoration - for their outstanding contributions to national defense and military modernization.
There are two Anhui people among 10 recipients. They are Cheng Kaijia and Wang Zhongxin.
Cheng Kaijia, whose ancestral home is in Jixi County and was born in 1918 in Jiangsu, is a famous physicist and founder of China's nuclear science and technology.
Cheng graduated with a bachelor's in physics from Zhejiang University in 1941. In 1946, he studied at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom and obtained a doctorate in 1948. He then became a researcher at the Institute of the Royal Chemistry Industry.
After returning to China in 1950, Cheng worked for Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Ninth Academy of Second Machinery Ministry and the Institute at China Nuclear Test Base, among others. He was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Science in 1980.
Since the 1990s, Cheng still studies material theory and high-power microwave technology.
Wang Zhongxin, born in Xiuning County,a junior middle school graduate, has the rank and expertise to operate some of the China's most sophisticated weapon systems.
Wang, is a master sergeant class one, the highest of the noncommissioned officer ranks, and is nicknamed "King of Soldiers" by the men of the People's Liberation Army Second Artillery Force, a strategic force equipped with both nuclear and conventional missiles.
