The winners of the 4th Anhui Animation and Comics Contest were unveiled at the awards ceremony held in Anhui Grand Theater in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, on Friday.
Jointly organized by the provincial Department of Culture, Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, Department of Education, Department of Science and Technology, Commission of Economy and Information Technology and Department of Commerce, the contest aims to scoop up cartoon talent and boost the local animation industry.
Zhao Han, vice chairman of the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was present at the event.
Since August 2016, the organizing committee has received 1,067 entries. After professional reviews and ratings, 57 ones stood out from the competition, including An Ling and Stitch, a cartoon series featuring An Ling, a girl from the province’s Huangshan city, and Stitch, a Disney character. It has been aired on CCTV.
Currently, Anhui’s cartoon industry takes the lead in the country. The number of state-validated animation companies reaches 35, ranking seventh nationwide. Some have made remarkable progress in upgrading corporate structure and expanding business scopes.
In addition, Zhao Ze, who majors in animation in Anhui Normal University, had his comic book Tsangyang Gyatso published in France and was invited to three French cartoon festivals.
