The joint venture invested by Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group(JAC Motor) and Volkswagen AG(VW) was officially approved, according to the information on The Administrative Service Center of Anhui Provincial Government (www.ahzw.gov.cn).
VW and JAC signed a memorandum of cooperation in 2016 in a bid to establish a joint venture to produce new-energy vehicles.
The joint venture is VW's third in China. Foreign automakers are required to form joint ventures to manufacture in China and are generally limited to two passenger car ventures, according to related policies. The official approval for the joint venture from competent authority is because the joint venture will focus on new-energy vehicles.
VW plan to manufacture 8 models in China, namely, e-Golf, L PHEV, A6L e-tron, GTE, I.D., e-tron quattro, and 2 models of developed by JAC and VW.
The joint venture plan to roll out its first pure electric SUV in 2018. It is learned that the vehicle will not use the logo of VW or the platform of VW.
