The Swedish furniture giant Ikea has finally decided to open a new branch in Luyang District in Hefei, the capital of East China’s Anhui Province, after years of field study and talks with local governments, Hefei Evening News reports Monday.
Situated at the crossing of Mengchengbei Road and Linquan Road, the furniture superstore is likely to go into operation in 2018. It is easily accessible to local residents as the under-construction third and fifth metro lines will meet nearby.
Rumors once circulated that Ikea would locate its Hefei branch in Yaohai, Gaoxin or Luyang districts. None of them, however, were confirmed by the headquarter.
As the largest furniture retailer in the world, Ikea will help boost the economic growth of the district as well as the city as a whole, the report said, citing insiders.
Ikea’s expansion in Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu has pushed up prices of real estates near its branches and sped up regional development.
