The National Reform and Development Commission (NDRC), China’s top economic regulator, has given its approval to a document on the feasibility of a high-speed railway from Anqing, East China’s Anhui province, to Jiujiang, East China’s Jiangxi province.

The 169-km rail will be part of two longer express passenger lines, one from Chinese capital Beijing in the north to the southern coastal city of Shenzhen, and the other from Shanghai to Wuhan, capital of Central China’s Hubei province.

According to the document, the rail link, at the cost of some 33.6 billion yuan ($4.9 billion), is designed to allow trains to run at a maximum speed of 350 km.

The rail will run for 102.6 km in Anhui, with Anqing as well as three counties under its jurisdiction: Qianshan, Taihu and Susong as its stops.
